Soffits and fascias are the boards that are mounted at the point where the roof meets the walls of the building. The soffit is the horizontally mounted board facing downwards and the fascia is mounted vertically facing outwards away from the wall. As well as contributing to the aesthetic of a building these boards together with the barge boards that line the gables prevent the house being exposed to damp, condensation and decay.
